A few days ago, Hollywood based Kenyan-Mexican actress and model Lupita Nyong’o expressed her dissatisfaction and disappointment in Grazia Magazine’s UK version which she accused of editing her natural kinky, coily hair on the photo that made it the cover of this fashion magazine’s November issue.
She took her grievance to social media where she tweeted saying. “Disappointed that @GraziaUK edited out & smoothed my hair to fit a more Eurocentric notion of what beautiful hair looks like. #dtmh.” Read Lupita’s Tweet

In return, Grazia Magazine apologised to Nyong’o in a social media statement that read
“Grazia Magazine would like to make it clear that at no point did they make any editorial request to the photographer for Lupita Nyong’o’s hair to be altered on this week’s cover, nor did we alter it ourselves. But we apologise unreservedly for not upholding the highest of editorial standards in ensuring that we were aware of all alterations that had been made.”
On the other hand, like Lupita stated, Grazia Magazine which apologised for this action, their main intention was nothing to see Lupita’s hair smoothed to fit the real Eurocentric notion which the Kenyan born Oscar- winning actress rubbished.
“Had I been consulted, I would have explained that I cannot support or condone the omission of what is my native heritage with the intention that they appreciate that there is still a very long way to go to combat the unconscious prejudice against black women’s complexion, hair style and texture.” Lupita wrote.
