Uganda beat Zimbabwe by 3wickets
ICC Women’s World # Africa Cricket Qualifiers
Windhoek, Namibia | THE INDEPEDENT | Gertrude Candiru was the star with bat and ball as Uganda pulled off a stunning final day perfomance, shocking favourites Zimbabwe to win the ICC Women’s World T20 Africa Qualifiers in Windhoek on Saturday.
Set 100 to win by Zimbabwe in their 20 overs, Uganda, led by an unbeaten 23 from Chandiru, got the prize with 3 balls and 3 wickets to spare.
Chandiru had earler walked off with figures of 3 for 14 in 4 overs as Uganda restricted Zimbabwe to 99 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs.
Uganda qualifies for the Women’s World T20 global qualifier set for either late this year or early next year at a venue that the world cricket governing body ICC will name.
The Women’s World T20 tournament itself will take place in the West Indies in November next year where the West Indies will defend the title that they won for the first time in India last year after beating Australia by eight wickets in the final.

A day earlier, Uganda secured a double win over Kenya to reach the final, while hosts Namibia beat Tanzania by six wickets to win the fourth place play-off.
Zimbabwe had ended the group stages top, including a comfortable 59-run victory over Uganda.
