Beach soccer derby in bloody end

By Julius Senyimba

Uganda sports has had bloody derbies over years and Sunday witnessed yet another. Nkumba University’s 4-2 victory over rivals Isabet at Lido beach in Entebbe had two red cards in an emotional duel which eventually turned physical.

As the game went on the wire, frustration consumed both camps and a brawl between Nkumba University’s Daniel Nsubuga and Isabet’s goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige worsened it. The latter all of a sudden stormed from the goal and attacked the former.

The players broke out on a fight

Within seconds, other players and officials had joined the melee. The two have a history and Kibirige claimed that Nsubaga provoked him into the ugly act verbally.

The five plus minutes commotion was settled by Uganda Beach Soccer Association officials, players from other teams and by press time, the association was yet to have a meeting and see a way to fight the old vice.

In other news, Katuuso Community girls’ team won the Muwanguzi women finals after a comprehensive 3-2 win over Kampala Junior Team. Prossy Nabukeera scored all the three goals for Katuuso Community as Precious Najjemba had a brace for Kampala Junior Team.
